Pat Keating, Buckingham Partner and Litigation Practice Group Leader, has been with the firm for over 29 years. Beyond the intellectual challenge, it is his colleagues and staff that have kept him here for so long.
However, becoming an attorney was not always Pat’s dream. “I wanted to be the starting full back for the Green Bay Packers,” says Keating, who played football during his high school years. “My father was an attorney; I never imagined I would become one as well.”
After receiving a college degree in Philosophy, Keating had a tough decision to make. “I knew I had to do something to earn a living. As a philosopher I was trained to argue, so I asked myself: where can I debate all day and get paid for it?”
Thus, the legal field became appealing, specifically litigation, which serves as Keating’s main area of practice today. In fact, he has received numerous awards for his litigation work, including his most recent honor of being named “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers®.
Outside of the legal practice, Keating is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys hiking, canoeing, reading and spending time with his three children, all of whom are adopted from three different countries. He credits northeast Ohio for being a great place to raise a family. “We have great schools, beautiful parks, and a broad range of restaurants in the region,” explains Keating. “I am proud to call northeast Ohio home.”
