Mark J. Skakun III, Buckingham Partner, joined the firm on September 1, 1977 after spending three years working as a law clerk for Judge Contie in the US District Court. Mark works in the firm’s Canton office and is a member of the Litigation Practice Group where he focuses on commercial litigation and intellectual property litigation.
Growing up, Mark always knew he wanted to be an attorney. His inspiration came from his father who was a successful litigation attorney.
“I always say what better way to get an adrenaline rush than to try lawsuits? It’s so much fun,” explains Mark. “I think of all those people depending upon me all the time. I have to be razor sharp every second. There are moments when things are being thrown at me that I cannot anticipate. How well I respond to those determines if I win or lose.”
His love for the practice of law extended to his children. Mark and his wife, Betty, have 3 sons: John, Jeffrey and James. The oldest, John, is practicing law in Chicago. The two youngest are a computer specialist and a CPA practicing in Akron, respectively.
Beyond practicing law, Mark enjoys traveling and spending time in Canton, where he grew up. “I have my family and friends here,” says Mark. “I love spending time with them, golfing, watching football games and doing what I do best: talking!”
