Pete Cahoon, Buckingham Partner, has been with the firm for over 16 years, focusing his litigation practice on family law, criminal defense and representing licensed professionals in disciplinary proceedings. In his time at the firm, Pete has won numerous awards for his legal excellence including Best Lawyers ® and Super Lawyers ®. In August 2014, he was named the Professionalism Award Recipient by the Akron Bar Association.
“I knew I wanted to be an attorney since I was 7 years old,” remembers Pete, who drew inspiration from watching Perry Mason on T.V. “He won every single case and had a party after. It made being a lawyer seem like an interesting and fun job. Of course, I later found out that law practice in real life wasn’t exactly like the Perry Mason show.”
During his first year at the University of Akron School of Law, Pete met his wife, Heidi. “She was a nursing student at the time,” says Pete. “We married shortly before I took the bar exam.”
The two stayed in northeast Ohio to raise their children. “Heidi and I have three beautiful daughters that we’ve enjoyed watching grow up,” says Pete, who ran the Akron Half Marathon in September with his youngest daughter, Faith.
Beyond running, Pete enjoys martial arts. In particular, he practices Muay Tai and Krav Maga. “I would love to teach these someday,” says Pete, who passed his probationary black belt training in Muay Tai this month.
Although Pete was not raised in northeast Ohio, he is committed to the region. He states, “Since the beginning of law school, I’ve loved this area.”
