Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLC is proud to announce its sponsorship of the 2016 Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon. In honor of Akron Children’s Hospital, and all the patients and families it supports, Akron Marathon will be highlighting child heroes during the 2016 race. Buckingham is excited to honor Akron Marathon Hero, Delaney Lawson.
“Fighting an illness takes courage, strength and hope – it takes a superhero,” said Bill Considine, president and CEO of Akron Children’s Hospital. “This summer we will be introducing patients from Akron Children’s Hospital who have a unique story to tell. We’ll highlight these young patient heroes in specially designated stretches of the 2016 race course called ‘Hero Zones.’ These children are our real-life superheroes, and we are proud to celebrate their victories with our community” (as cited on akronmarathon.org).
As a Hero Zone sponsor, Buckingham will run for, stand alongside, and cheer with Akron Children’s child hero, Delaney Lawson. Buckingham staff were introduced to Delaney during this weekend’s 8K and 1 Miler hosted by the Akron Marathon Race Series.
In recognition of their special role along the Blue Line, the patient heroes were official starters of the National Interstate 8k & 1 Mile on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at InfoCision Stadium. On March 14, 2014, just 5 days after turning 10, Delaney Lawson was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Three months later, additional testing revealed she also had celiac disease. Today, Delaney is doing great. In the fall, she will start 7th grade at Highland Middle School. She receives care from Akron Children’s center for diabetes and endocrinology, with checkups every 3 months, as well as regular visits to Akron Children’s department of pediatric gastroenterology.

This sponsorship is a result of Buckingham’s long-standing commitment to community involvement through Northeast Ohio. Several members of Buckingham staff will be participating in the marathon and cheering with Delaney at our Buckingham Hero Zone, including members of the executive board, as well as administrators and support staff.
The race will take place on September 24, 2016 at 7:00 a.m. in downtown Akron.
