On August 1, 2014, more than 100 CPAs, tax attorneys, accountants and business owners from across Ohio attended the 2nd Annual Northeast Ohio State & Local Tax Conference at the DoubleTree Hotel in Independence.

The University of Akron’s George W. Daverio School of Accountancy and The Ohio Society of CPAs join to host the conference each year, with Buckingham presented as one of the conference’s major sponsors.
Steve Dimengo, J.D., CPA, MT, and Richard Fry III, J.D., MT, attorneys at Buckingham, showcased their knowledge by presenting at the conference on multiple topics ranging from audit appeals to Ohio sales/use tax.

The morning session included two panel sessions where topics such as Ohio’s commercial activity tax, sales and use tax, and personal income tax, among others, were discussed.

The lunchtime session included a teleconferenced presentation by keynote speaker Congressman Jim Renacci. Congressman Renacci, who represents Ohio’s 16th district and is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, gave an update on federal developments, including the Marketplace Fairness Act.
The afternoon included two tracks of breakout sessions; One track geared toward larger companies focused on multistate operations, while the other track focused on Ohio audit, appeals and commercial activity tax issues.

Each attendee left with valuable information on the status, trends, and expert opinions of state and local tax issues. The conference offered 8 hours of Tax CPE credits. The 3rd annual SALT conference is expected to take place Fall 2015.
