Akron, OH - Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLP is pleased to announce that Patricia A. Pacenta, a partner in the firm’s Akron office, has been inducted as Chairperson Akron Community Foundation. for a 2 year term commencing July 14, 2009. The Akron Community Foundation, formerly known as Akron Community Trusts, was established by Akron Industrialist Edwin Shaw from his bequest estate, to serve the health, educational, cultural and welfare needs primarily, but not exclusively, of Summit County, Ohio. To date, assets from which income is used to support projects of many local nonprofit organizations total approximately $138 million. Total grants paid by the Akron Community Foundation over 54 years amounts to $80 million. During the 2008 fiscal year, more than $7.6 million in grants and other distributions were made to worthwhile organizations in Summit County. Ms. Pacenta has served on the Foundation’s board of directors since 2003 and has been an officer since 2005. As Chairperson of the Foundation, Ms. Pacenta will lead the board comprised of 24 members of the Akron community who are familiar with the philanthropic needs of the greater Akron community. She will assist the foundation in establishing policies, approving the distribution of grants to nonprofit organizations and oversee the investment of the foundation’s endowment funds. Ms. Pacenta’s law practice is concentrated in the areas of estate planning, business succession planning, charitable gift planning and estate and trust administration. She has received special recognition for 20 consecutive years as one of the Best Lawyers in America®. She is listed among the top 100 Ohio Super Lawyers™ and the Top 50 Female Super Lawyers™.
