Dimengo, Tax: Mr. Dimengo joined the firm in 1989 and focuses his practice primarily on consultation and representation with respect to Federal and Ohio tax law matters. He is routinely engaged to structure proposed transactions in a manner to obtain optimum tax minimization. Mr. Dimengo earned his J.D. from The University of Akron, School of Law, Akron, Ohio (cum laude, 1986). Patrick J. Keating, Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights: Mr. Keating joined the firm in 1985 and has been involved in a wide range of litigation matters including bankruptcy, Creditors’ Rights and Uniform Commercial Code matters, and representation of financial institutions and other parties in complex litigation. Mr. Keating earned his J.D. from The University of Akron, School of Law, Akron, Ohio (magna cum laude, 1983). He received his B.A. from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio (magna cum laude, 1978).
David Kern, Tax: Mr. Kern joined the law firm in 1996 and practices in the areas of business, taxation, healthcare, trusts and estates, employee benefits, and non-profit law with significant experience in the corporate transactional area. He was named as the Akron Corporate Lawyer of the Year for The Best Lawyers in America (2009). Mr. Kern received his J.D. from Capital University Law School, Columbus, Ohio (with honors, 1990). In addition, he has earned his Masters of Law in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C. (1992) as well as two undergraduate degrees from Tulane University (1983) and The Ohio State University (1990).
David J. Lewis, Tax: Mr. Lewis joined the law firm in 1987 and he presently chairs the Firm’s Taxation sub-practice group. His areas of practice include corporate, individual, partnership, excise tax law, and business law. He counsels service, manufacturing, ingredients, farming, processing, transportation, distribution and technology companies on a variety of business needs. Mr. Lewis earned his J.D. from Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland, Ohio (cum laude, 1987). In addition, he received his B.B.A. in Accounting from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio (1979). He is licensed as a CPA in Ohio and has served as a long-time adjunct professor with The University of Akron: Tax Practice and Procedure.
Mark J. Skakun,III, Intellectual Property Litigation: Mr. Skakun joined the law firm in 1977 and was recently listed as a 2009 Top 100 Ohio Super Lawyer out of approximately 37,000 total lawyers in Ohio. He has extensive experience in all matters of commercial and intellectual property litigation including patents, trademarks and trade secrets; as well as experience in general commercial litigation concerning nearly all fields. Mr. Skakun earned his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Cleveland, Ohio (1974). He received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana (1971).
