Canton, OH - The law firm of Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs, LLP is pleased to announce that Joseph J. Feltes has been named Managing Partner of its Canton, Ohio office, effective immediately. Feltes replaces Jeffrey Halm, who diligently served as Managing Partner of the Canton office, as well as a member of the Firm’s Board of Managers, for many years. Halm will continue to focus his practice in Trusts & Estates. Feltes has been with the Firm for 30 years and is a Partner in the Health & Medicine, Litigation, and Employment & Workers’ Compensation Practice Groups. In addition, he serves as the Chairman of the Firm’s Retention Committee. “I am very confident in Joe’s ability to lead the attorneys and staff of our Canton office. He is not only an experienced and successful attorney as his practice attests, but also has the enthusiasm, management abilities and interpersonal skills to assist our attorneys and staff achieve greater success,” said Patrick J. Feltes’ practice includes the representation of physicians and hospitals in compliance, contracting, and Medical Staff issues (including credentialing, corrective action, and disruptive physician issues). Feltes also handles matters on behalf of health care providers in antitrust, credentialing, false claims, fraud and abuse, and malpractice litigation. His clients include acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, physicians, managed care plans and TPAs, durable medical equipment suppliers, and other health care providers and suppliers. He has significant experience in advising clients on the HIPAA Privacy Act. In addition, he counsels companies and individuals on how to avoid liability for e-mail and Internet use and how to implement retention and disposition policies for electronically stored records. He also represents employers in discrimination, wrongful termination, and other employment matters as well as represents healthcare employers in drafting employee handbooks and compliance policies. Mr. Feltes has written many articles for M.D. News and is the author of chapter “Informal Dispute Resolution and Its Use in Peer Review,” for the Peer Review Guidebook, published by the American Health Lawyers Association. He regularly speaks on health law, provider compliance, medical staff and problem physician remediation, clinical e-mail and communication issues, HIPAA, and related issues for various organizations and clients throughout the Midwest. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and is recognized as an Ohio’s Super Lawyers™, as voted by his peers. In addition, he has a Martindale-Hubbell rating of AV, which indicates very high to pre-eminent legal ability and very high ethical standards as established by confidential opinions from members of the Bar. Feltes received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, and his A.B. from John Carroll University. He is admitted to practice before the Ohio Bar and the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Health Law Section and Antitrust Section), the Ohio State Bar Association (Health Law Committee), and the Stark County Bar Association. Feltes is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the Ohio Society of Hospital Attorneys. Mr. Feltes resides in Canton, Ohio, with his wife, Annette Yoho.
